Adult Autism Assessment

Do you suspect you may be Autistic / Neurodivergent?

* Autism assessment and neurodivergence counseling now offered for adults residing in NH, MA, and CT. *

Are you seeking an adult autism assessment? At Balance Mental Health, we provide objective diagnostic evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using the MIGDAS-2 and other standardized/validated tools to consider a formal diagnosis of Autism. We explore the comprehensive clinical picture with differential diagnoses to ensure accurate assessment.

While our team believes that you do not need formal approval to identify as Neurodivergent, we support individuals who may have goals that may only be possible with the support of a formal Autism diagnosis. Certain benefits/accommodations are only available to individuals with a documented diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Because of this, we are committed to providing formal evaluations for a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as counseling for individuals who wish to responsibly self-identify as Neurodivergent.

Why seek adult autism assessment and Neurodivergence counseling at Balance Mental Health?

Navigating life as an Autistic adult can be challenging without proper understanding and support. Our comprehensive approach to autism assessment is designed first to provide counseling about self-identifying as Neurodivergent vs. the value of a formal diagnosis.

We also offer clarity through formal evaluation with evidence-based tools to assess and diagnose autism in verbally fluent adults. Our assessment also explores differential diagnosis through standardized tools and clinical interviews, to ensure an accurate diagnostic picture.

Some clients may require the highest burden of proof to meet their personal needs. This could include seeking benefits from insurance, accommodations at the workplace or in school, or other legal matters. It is part of our core mission to reduce the financial burden and time spent searching for relief, and so we are committed to referring those clients out to neuropsychiatric/psychological testing.

What are the goals of counseling and assessment?

  • Explore solutions to challenges imposed by the Neurodivergent brain style
  • Examine and process past experiences to achieve understanding and closure
  • Improve capacity for self-love and forgiveness
  • Learn to set appropriate boundaries with family, friends, and yourself
  • Navigate complex professional and interpersonal challenges
  • Discuss the utility and impact of “masking”

How much does an autism assessment cost?

We aim to offer more affordable, accessible autism assessment services. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we offer the opportunity to choose only the services you need. Some individuals may only require one-to-two counseling sessions to feel more confident about their identity. For others, a full evaluation process is warranted to assess for a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

At Balance Mental Health, you can expect to pay between $550 and $2850, depending on your preferences and needs. These services are self-pay only, with an additional fee if you require a detailed written report of results.

Our adult autism assessment and counseling services are available in New Hampshire (in-office and telehealth), Massachusetts (telehealth only), and Connecticut (telehealth only)… and coming soon to other states. If you have further questions about this process, please review our Neurodiversity Services FAQ. Reach out today to request an appointment or join our waiting list.
