Wondering what to expect at your first appointment?
At Balance Mental Health, you will be heard.
You can expect your intake appointment to last about an hour (but sometimes more). We will start by getting to know a little about one another before moving on to what brings you into the office. Next, we will have a conversation about the following:
For psychiatry:
- Your concerns and current struggles, and when they began
- How your symptoms are affecting you
- Your psychiatric treatment history (if any) and medications you have tried in the past
- Your medical history and personal history (where you’re from, your living situation, what you do for work, etc.)
From there, we will discuss whether and what medications may be recommended. This is a collaborative decision-making process based on your symptoms and goals.
For talk therapy:
- A chance to share what brings you to therapy and what you’re hoping for
- A conversation about your mental health history, current stressors, and supports
- Discussion of goals, preferences, and what feels important to you
- Time to ask questions and see if the therapist feels like a good fit
It is our goal for your visits to be as comfortable and helpful as possible.
